Captain Robert J. Husmann (9-3-30 to 5-28-17)

Robert John Husmann, 86, of Roseville, CA, passed away on May 28, 2017.  He was born September 3, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio but lived most of his adult life in California, 44 of which were in Santa Cruz.  He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth, of almost 64 years; daughter Debbie (Greg), Rebecca, and Sarah; sons Peter (Suzy) and Sam;  15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy, sisters-in-law Betty, Helen, Janet (Jerry), Nancy (Ken) and many nieces and nephews as well as many extended family and friends.  He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Captain in 1975 having served faithfully and with honor and distinction for almost 24 years.  In the years of his service, he was best known for his excellence as a Commander of a 600-man submarine hunting squadron of P-3 Orions out of Moffet Field in Santa Clara County, CA.  He loved his country with great zeal and believed in all she stands for.  He loved God and raised his family to believe in God as well.  He enjoyed life and particularly time with his wife and family as well as the outdoors, especially the cabin he built with his wife in the Santa Cruz Mts. where they lived together 44 years before moving to Roseville, CA. He also loved music – dancing and singing, especially with his Ruthie, as well as playing the piano and his ukulele; inventing – he had 5 patents; fixing things – he never gave up on repair jobs; playing games of all sorts, especially charades; but mostly he loved the quality time spent with those who were dear to him.  His laughter was contagious and his heart was so big.  He was loved and cherished by all who knew him and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.  He was buried with full military honors on July 28, 2017 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.

  1. Thank you, Boobie! I so appreciate your loving and insightful observations of our dad. Yes, he shall be missed, but his loving, fatherly spirit shall forever remain fully alive in our hearts. And yes, what an awesome "Skipper" (VP-91), an even more warm and loving father.

Thank you again Boob, well done.
